Dental Fillings

Tooth cavities are usually a result of tooth decay. Other causes including cracked or broken teeth; and nail biting, tooth grinding or trauma can also contribute to dental cavities.

One of the most common cosmetic dentistry procedures performed at Dentalogica is dental fillings. Dental fillings are used to restore the missing tooth structure by filling the cavity. Typically, your dentist will remove the decayed portion of your tooth and fill the area with the suitable filling material.

Different Types of Dental Fillings

At Dentalogica, our dentists use three types of dental filling materials depending on different factors; like the size of the cavity, durability, budget and more.

  • Amalgam Fillings – this is the most common Silver-coloured filling. Amalgam fillings contain a mixture of metals including mercury, silver, tin, and copper. This filling offers strength and durability, but many patients do not like it because of its colour. Preserving natural tooth is always of key importance to the dentist and this is why many practices continue to use amalgam fillings.
  • Composite Fillings – Made of a natural tooth-coloured composite; powered glass and ceramic added to a resin base. This type of filling is popular among our dental patients as it can match the colour of the teeth. Composite filling is less durable than amalgam filling and needs to be replaced more frequently.
  • Porcelain / Ceramic Fillings – this type of dental filling is very durable and aesthetically pleasing. It is made of porcelain. At Dentalogica, we provide Porcelain fillings with CEREC which is a superior solution for large cavities and more conservative than crowns and other restoration procedures.

Learn more about this type of filling on the CEREC Porcelain Restorations section.
